Zamrud lake (Emerald lake) was originally two adjoining lakes, the Pulau Besar Lake and Bawah Lake. Aek Martua is the name of a river in the Tangun village district Bangun Purba and Aek Martua Waterfall is the highest waterfall of the many waterfalls found along the river upstream. Martua Aek name comes from the Mandailing tribe which means ‘Air Bertuah(Water of Power)’, where the majority of these villagers are mandailing tribe.
